There is only one company that can rightfully claim the Pinnacle of Noodledom. Only one company whose founder, faced with a Japanese food shortage after WWII, invented instant ramen and sparked a 3-minute global revolution. Only one whose spirit of innovation continues to provide simple, nourishing delight to billions of people. Only one that has been loved around the world for more than 60 years. There is only one Nissin Foods.
On a trip to the U.S. in 1966, Mr. Ando noticed Americans curiously eating forkfuls of noodles out of cups, instead of using bowls and chopsticks. With that simple observation, the worldwide Cup Noodles® phenomenon was born. Shortly after, Nissin officially put down its roots in the U.S. In 1972, our Gardena, CA, plant started production of Top Ramen®—the first instant ramen manufactured and sold in the U.S. And ever since, Nissin Foods USA has launched a continuous stream of new and innovative products for hungry, noodle-loving Americans.
Inventor, founder, dreamer, humanitarian, Momofuku Ando’s words have provided continual inspiration to Nissin employees around the world. As you explore the site, keep an eye out for some of his most inspiring quotes, and he may just do the same for you.

In 1958, our founder, Momofuku Ando, was inspired to create instant ramen to give people easy access to quality, convenient meals.Recalling the food shortages he witnessed in World War II, Ando had a vision. It’s about doing the right thing as a corporate citizen, and we proudly follow this tenet:
“Peace will come to the world when people have enough to eat.”
We improved the health profile of all our products by removing the added MSG* without compromising on taste. *Contains small amounts of naturally occurring glutamates.
Nissin purchases 100% mass balance, certified sustainable palm oil for all the products we make. We’re proud to be the first instant ramen company in the U.S. to make this important investment in sustainability.
It’s our priority to ensure the quality and integrity of our products. All our facilities are SQF (Safe Quality Food) Certified.
As the creator of the instant ramen category, we’ve made a global commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 30% by 2030. Our premium products use a paper-foam container that reduces CO2 emissions by 25% compared to our classic cup packaging.
To offset the energy usage of our manufacturing plants, we purchase green Renewable Energy Credits. In addition, the U.S. corporate office uses power generated by on-site solar panels.
To support underserved communities, we launched the Nissin “Good Neighbor” scholarship for local high school students. We also enjoy partnerships with local food banks and employee-led initiatives such as holiday food-toy drives and fundraisers.
